After unveiling the poster, we’re delighted to show you the trailer for Father & Soldier by Mathieu Vadepied featuring Omar Sy, Alassane Dion and Jonas Bloquet:
1917. Bakary Diallo enlists in the French army to join his 17-year-old son Thierno, who has been forcibly conscripted. Sent to the front, this father and son will have to face the war together. Galvanized by the enthusiasm of his officer who wants to take him into the heat of the battle, Thierno will free himself and learn to become a man, while Bakary will do everything he can to tear him away from the fighting and bring him home safe and sound.
Shown to the public for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival last year in the Un Certain Regard section, Father & Solider transported the audience to a part of history that concerns us all. An entire chapter of our history that is too often ignored. 200,000 “Senegalese” regiment who, in reality came from all over Africa and who came to fight alongside the French “Poilu” soldiers during the Great War. In total, 30,000 of them died on the French battlefields.
In Father & Soldier, Omar Sy plays a father who decides to join the French army to protect his son Thierno, who was conscripted by force. For the first time, Omar Sy is performing in his mother tongue, the West African language Fula.
id you know that this is not the first time that Mathieu Vadepied and Omar Sy have collaborated together? Their first time was on the set of Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache’s The Intouchables. At the time, one was a cinematographer and the other was playing the life-changing role of Driss.
We look forward to seeing you in theaters on January 4, 2023!
