The plot of Father & Soldier is as follows:
1917. Bakary Diallo enlists in the French army to join his 17-year-old son Thierno, who has been forcibly conscripted. Sent to the front, this father and son will have to face the war together. Galvanized by the enthusiasm of his officer who wants to take him into the heat of the battle, Thierno will free himself and learn to become a man, while Bakary will do everything he can to tear him away from the fighting and bring him home safe and sound.
To shine a light on these forgotten heroes of the First World War, the director has cast Omar Sy and Jonas Bloquet. Indeed, Father & Soldier honors these soldiers who have been erased from popular memory, Senegalese riflemen, the forgotten heroes of the First World War, forced to leave their home and fight for France’s freedom.
Father & Soldier’s worldwide premiere screening will take place at the opening of Un Certain Regard on Wednesday, May 18 in front of the Jury, who will give out their awards on Friday, May 27.
