The film event directed by Mathieu Vadepied, Father & Soldier, is finally out in theaters!
1917. Bakary Diallo enlists in the French army to join his 17-year-old son Thierno, who has been forcibly conscripted. Sent to the front, this father and son will have to face the war together. Galvanized by the enthusiasm of his officer who wants to take him into the heat of the battle, Thierno will free himself and learn to become a man, while Bakary will do everything he can to tear him away from the fighting and bring him home safe and sound.
“There is no way out, we must fight and win”
After meeting on the set of The Intouchables in 2011, where Mathieu Vadepied was then Director of Photography and Omar Sy played the lead role, the two men’s 10-year friendship has led them to create this poetic and political movie. To shine a light on these great forgotten heroes of the First World War, director Mathieu Vadepied wanted to join forces with Omar Sy, Alassane Diong and Jonas Bloquet.
In the heart of the trenches, it also tells the story of the emancipation of a son from his father. Through this film, Omar Sy is paying tribute to the Senegalese Riflemen of the First World War. More than a film, Father & Soldier is a fiction fueled by reality!
« On ne pense pas vraiment à ça mais les mecs arrivent, le climat est hostile, ils ne parlent pas la langue. Tout est dans le silence, il y a presque un jeu paranoïaque »
