The 67th Cannes Film Festival started today and will be chaired this year by Jane Campion.
The event will begin with Olivier Dahan’s latest film, Grace of Monaco. Nicole Kidman will be the princess of the opening film for this 2014 season.
In this film, the La Vie en Rose director leaves Paris to head to Monaco City and looks back on the events that marked the life of the actress turned princess in his own way. Between geopolitical threats and complications in her relationship, we follow this kind-hearted women’s misgivings.
The beginning of the festival will be intense for the Gaumont teams as the official presentation of Breathe, the second film directed by Mélanie Laurent, is part of the Critics’ Week selection.
This dramatic comedy stars Lou de Laâge and Joséphine Japy alongside Isabelle Carré and Claire Keim, portraying all the turmoil of our teenage years.
On May 19, the jury will be presented with When Animals Dream, a Danish horror film directed by Jonas Alexander Arnby. Lars Mikkelsen, Jakob Oftebro and Sonja Richter plunge the audience into a universe that combines drama and science fiction where fear takes many forms! The suspense will spread across the Boulevard de la Croisette and take hold.
This will be followed by The Target with its official screening on May 22. Yoon Hong-Seung offers a Korean remake of Fred Cavayé’s Point Blank, starring Ryu Seung-yong, Yu Jun-sang and Lee Jin-wook.
In parallel to these official presentations, the Gaumont program will be featured at Cannes Classics with the screening of 8½ on May 15 for the opening of the Cinéma de la Plage. We all remember this timeless film by Federico Fellini fondly, a film that features a duo as glamorous as they are dramatic, namely Marcella Mastroianni and Anouk Aimée.
Finally, Gérard Oury’s classic, Delusions of Grandeur, will have the Cinéma de la Plage in stitches.
See you on May 25 to find out the jury’s verdict!
