Half-brothers Joël and Régis share a West Indian father whom they barely know. When he is dying, the two very different brothers go to him. When he dies, they only thing he leaves them is the deed of emancipation that made their slave ancestors free. The two men do not understand the document's precious symbolic value and tear it up. One of their old aunts decides to punish them and puts a spell on them, sending them back to 1780.
